could you please tell me if every house has it\\\'s own outside stop-cock. i say they have , my friends say they have never heard of them, and they dont have one.

Normally, If you cant find it. It may be buried under tarmac or dirt , Local water board should be able to locate it for.
Some of the older terraced houses use to have one stopcock that fed a block of them on a shared main.

Yes most houses have their own but there are some that have a single stopcock controlling a block of houses This is quite rare and are in older type properties. All modern houses have their own
