Hi all

As part of my final preparation for painting my lounge I went around the room last night and applied GeoCel Decorators Caulk to all cracks and around all door and window frames, smoothed off with a wet finger and all looking good.

Got up this morning to find a single crack down the middle of every single line of caulk I had applied. It looks terrible after all my efforts !

What did I do wrong? and how can I rectify this. Please help.

Many thanks

It could be the caulk..ive never heard of the brand personally

Ive seen this happen before, sometimes caused by the room being too warm or the surfaces that you are caulking i.e something porous like bare wood, the moisture in the caulk absorbs into the surface leaving nothing to form a bond.

Picture?

I'm visualising this as sticking at the sides of the gap but splitting down the middle? I presume the stuff has shrunk as it dries. I was thinking it might have been the size of the gap?. If you fill but leave the level below the finished surface, you could then apply a thinner layer over the top, which, being thin, should shrink less but would fill the crack.
