I have measured a rad that I wish to replace. And I have come to two possible conclusions:

1) I don't know how to measure a rad;
Or
2) Rads used to be imperial and are now metric.

Please help. I believe my rad measures 142cm (56 inches). Is this an old style rad. How do i replace it? Can I:

A) get an adapter to make a 1400mm rad fit;
Or
B) have drain the system, move the pipework, etc (i.e. employ a plumber!)

Many thanks,

There may be enough play in the pipework to take up the odd 20mm.

if the floor is wood you can always notch out the floor to take up the slack ..
measure the rad exactly from end to end and bottom to top .. take these measurements to your local merchants and he will help .. turn off both valves and remove the threads from the rad side and pull away the old rad .. re-fix the new 1 in the same position and re-fill by opening the valves .. :) (keep a bowl handy as you never know . :)aslo a spare set of hands would be advisable .. good luck .

Chrome tap extensions come in very handy for this problem
