I will be giving a friend a hand to change a 3 port valve as it isn't working. Will I need to change the whole valve or can I change just the motor.

In either case could you let me know how to do it.

Thanks

Is that wise, since you don't know what to do or how to do it?

Is the valve is faulty, then change the valve; if the motor is faulty then change the motor; if the actuator is faulty then change the powerhead; if you're not sure then either change the entire valve or get someone in who is sure.

In either case could you let me know how to do it.
The basic process for changing the entire valve is:

1. Isolate.
2. Drain.
3. Change the valve.
4. Refill and vent.
5. Energise and test.

There are pitfalls at every step of the way, so have you searched the forum for the answer? If not then please do and then post here again if there's anything you don't understand.

BTW, electricity is involved so "isolate" means both water and electrics.
