I am moving a socket one foot higher up the wall, but there is not enough spare cable under the floorboards. How can I safely add more cable? There are two cables going into the socket.

why are you moving it?

easiest soloution (assuming the existing socket is on the ring) is to leave the existing socket where it is and run a spur to a new one.

or you could replace the cable legs that are too short (this could be a bit of hassle though)!!!

all depends on how good a job you want to do, plugwash's idea is a good suggestion but will you be happy with the look? suppose it depends on the location of the socket.
