Hi,
has anyone any idea how to remove PVA from a plastered wall. It appears to have been applied randomly in patches, which resulted in the existing emulsion being darker over the PVA areas. I have scraped off the emulsion, but don't want the same problem to occur.

Same as removing wallpaper paste... wet it thoroughly, then use a broad paint scraper or stripping knife, keep wiping it off on a bit of kitchen roll.

Thanks for that, but no luck. It is not porous to water at all. Perhaps it is not PVA.

Seems to me someone has applied a woodstain or an wood-dye on your wall areas.

Use a stain block paint or oil based undercoat on the affected areas, then emulsion over again (2 coats). We had PVA on our ceiling one coat of Dulux undercoat and two coats of Dulux Matt emulsion worked well.
