Painting an artex ceiling

Hi
I am trying to emulsion artex ceiling, but paint keeps flaking off. Do I need to apply sealant? If so any particular type?
Any other preparation required?

What you describe is a classic case of using unthinned emulsion on bare artex. Bare artex should be mist coated with 30% water to emulsion. Trade matt is best.
Dont use pva as a sealer, might seem like a good idea but causes problems laters...
