Since changing a blown bulb in one of my rear breaklights my headlights have started to come on when I push the break pedal, I have also noticed my break lights don't seem to be as strong as they used to be and am sure this is to do with the headlights coming on at the same time.

Please could somebody tell me if there's a way of solving this problem without needing to take it to the garage.

Have you used the correct bulb, it looks like you have fitted a stop & tail bulb, check the other side and get the same bulb, that should cure the problem.I had this problem once on a VW and someone had fitted a wrong bulb and the side lights came on when the brake pedal was pressed.

acording to a mate who works for the RAC its quite common.

people force the stop / tail lamp in the wrong way round.

also check for broken common earth on the lamp cluster

It turned out that it was an incorrect bulb causing the problem.

Thanks to both of you for all your help.
