Can anyone explain what it means when when a time switch is rated

2 (1) A 240V AC ??

I can understand the 240V AC bit. It's the 2 (1) A that puzzles me.

I know that A is amps but is it rated for 2 amps or 1 amp or what?

Thanks for the info. Which is more important when wiring pumps, motorized valves etc, the resistive current or the inductive?

Most manufacturers suggest that the whole system should be protected by a 3 amp fuse, but the Honeywell Programmer I recently purchased recommends a 10 amp fuse, which seems a bit excessive.
