Trying to find out about the best method of painting new plaster and keep on seeing miscoat but not sure what this is ( newby to diy after years of living with parents) I have got all the bedrooms plastered and have currently used a cheap matt emulsion to undercaot them as advised by a friend, will this need another coat or a coat of miscoat whatever that is

A mist coat is just a thin coat of matt emulsion..its the first coat applied to the walls..

How much you thin it down depends on the brand of paint..if its a trade matt then id say 30-40% is safe.

If its a retial matt then maybe about 20%

A brush is sometimes a good way of applying it because a roller doesnt tend to flick the paint around quite a lot.

If the walls are a thin skim over plaster board then Vinyl matt is acceptable...if its deep plastering then id go for contract (non vinyl) matt

Once you have done the mist coat and its dry you can that may need to be done then LIGHTLY rub down the wall to remove any blemishes and flatten it off..do any filling etc..

The next coat should be thinned 15-20%..

Again light rub down..

Final coat thin by about the same.

DONT USE VINYL SILK ON NEW PLASTER...it shows up every surface mark

AND DONT RUB THE PLASTER DOWN BEFORE YOU MIST IT...YOUL SCRATCH IT TO PIECES
