Have had new pump fitted as was experiencing circulation problems. Slightly better but still some rads cool at bottom so suspect sludge. I will get it fushed. However sometimes after a couple of minutes operation the flame and pilot extinguish. Sometimes the boiler will run for 2 hours. If you watch it happen through the window, the flame pattern becomes erratic, the flame starts to lift off the burner surface and within 30 seconds the gas valve shuts off. Could it just be overheating ? Anyone any ideas please?

The flame is lifting off because it is searching for air. Get it checked by a CORGI registered operative. Radiators cold at bottom due to sludge, needs a powerflush

If the flame is lifting off then the boiler will be producing carbon monoxide which can kill people. Thats serious and the boiler should be turned off immediately until a CORGI can inspect it.

A lack of air for combustion indicates a probably fault with the flue. That may be internal or could just be that somebody has damaged or covered up the outside terminal.

Have you inspected the terminal?

Tony

Its now switched off. The flue looks clear outside. However, have called a CORGI as suggested. Thanks for advice.
