We have had a problem with banging & ticking noise in our bedroom for the past year or so - only when the boiler is on. IN an effort to reduce the problem we recently had two new radiators fitted in the bedroom where the noise was coming from.

The new radiators are the same width as the old ones but slightly deeper so the plumber who fitted it had to pull the pipes slightly to make the new radiators fit.

Since then the banging has got a lot worse and is starting to drive us mad. We think it is coming from beneath the floorboards and have a look under the carpet. However the floorboards are really long - almost the length of the room and there doesnt seem to be any obvious place to start trying to lift it.

Please can someone advise us on how to lift the floorboards without causing any damage to the joists or ceiling/pipes below? Is there an obvious place to start and how do we avoid weakening the floorboards? What tools should we use?

Any help would be really appreciated as it is slowly driving us crazy!! :)
