My boiler has always been quite noisy but recently it keeps on turning of after about 3 or 4 minutes, pilot and everything. I light the pilot again, it fires up for a few minutes then "click" an it's all gone off again. Any ideas please?

overheating problem.maybe pump getting worn or scale build up. over heat stats also start to fail but the noise indicates scale/pump
Is the scale buildup something I can check for and clear myself? Just taking the front off the boiler I can see there is quite a bit of white powdery stuff. Are there any vents or anything this could be blocking?
THE SCALE I AM REFERING TO IS IN THE SYSTEM PIEWORK/HEAT EXCHANGER.
