what does this code mean

Our hot water is not working properly (very randomly) and when i checked to see if the temp was turned up on the display it said F.22

The boiler is an ecoMax (vaillant)

Any help please as to what to tell the guy when I ring him to come fix it.

Assuming your "guy" is a boiler engineer then if he is to have any chance of fixing it then he should have all the information to look it up himself.

Do give him the fault code before he comes though.

What does the pressure gauge say?
It should be 1 - 1.5. If not, use the filling loop to let more water in. Be sure to close it again.
