about to redo our small bathroom (6ft x 5'10")

contains:
Shower (plan to have an overhead electric extractor light),
toilet and sink.

We have a large opening window, which is usual ajar when showering

Do we need to keep the air brick/hole we currently have? (approx 11" x 10")

opinions appreciated

You don't have to have the air vent as well but they are very handy in the hot summer and security reason when you don't have to leave the window open, you could fit an open/shut vent mesh over it unless you want to do away with it altogether.

Any constant background ventilation is better than none.

The bathroom will be humid long after the fan switches off, and just opening the window for the brief time when showering is not going to help much.

Have a look at building regs part f in relation to bathroom ventalation, I always install an anti humidity extract fan on all refurbs with a timer.
The fan if direct through a wall acts as a vent even when not in operation.
