We have non-standard windows in our house. The only thing standing between us and the elements is single-pane, aluminum frame windows. We would be about as well off just leaving the windows open for all the cold and heat we gain and lose depending on the season. I have determined not to let another summer pass without replacing all the windows with vinyl, double-pane windows.
Here's the rub -- did I mention these are non-traditional windows? -- the windows seem to have been just fitted to the framing of the house during initial construction, and there exist no inside or outside stops. Nor do any of the windows have sills: its a mess.
Run-of-the-mill vinyl replacement windows will not work; I'd still not have framing or sills.
Can or should I purchase windows used for new construction and just start from scratch?
I know how to install replacement windows, but have no experience with a total window from scratch. Do new construction windows come with the necessary sill and interior and exterior frames?
Will be doing this work on a lean budget, so having a pro do the work is not an option.
Any feedback would be appreciated. |
