BBC Tomorrow's World once featured a superb ladder safety device. It consisted essentially of a horizontal clamp-on 'axle' (2m wide?) with a rubber wheel at each end.
Don't know if it was ever mass produced?? Would be an excellent Hire Tool product, probably too expensive to own.
