Hi,
I'm currently buying a terraced house in North London. Its a victorian house and most of the other houses on the street have the original brickwork on show, which looks really good. However the one I'm buying has at some point had pebbledash rendering done. It is now a really grubby grey colour and is a bit of an eyesore. There is always the option of cleaning it up and painting it, but I really like the look of the other houses along the street. Can anyone tell me if removing the render would damage the brickwork, and if not whats the best way to do it? Any other ideas?
Before anyone asks, the reason I'm buying this place is that the inside is awesome, and now i'm just getting fussy.
Cheers

Difficult one, depending how the pebbledash was done, pvc, sealer or metal lath or similar and the problem with old bricks, they can be porous.
The only way I would do is to try out of sight area and see what happen, if there're some damaged brick, maybe possible to take them out and turn them round, difficult though, I would use something like a very sharp 2" cold chisel to investgate, if you tap the rendering it will tell you where the hollow area is which should easily come off to see the condition of the brickwork.
You might better off asking on the forum here www.periodproperty.co.uk They are specialists in old properties __________________ Always judge a man by the way he treats someone who is of no use to him |
