Replacing windows

Hi,

I want to replace the windows at my house, but I have heard that it's much easier if you leave the aluminum frame alone and attached the new windows to the old frame. Well, my question is how much more difficult to remove the aluminum frame? Is it recomended to do so? By the way I have wood sidings. Thanks.
