lining paper

have posted a similar question in building section and am after a 2nd
opinion
existing walls have hairline cracking, a pal has offered to prepare then paper walls with 1ooo gauge lining paper ( not cross lined ) then emulsion , will this prevent cracking from coming through , are there any problems emulsioning lining paper, building forum have advised to pva then skim but hav seen this done b4 and cracking re-appeared.

Where are the cracks? is the wall newly plastered?

Normally lining paper can solve the problem but id recommend raking out the cracks first and filling them.

If they are persistent cracks then you may need to use cotton backed lining paper...the downside of this stuff is that its a bit bumpy and normally needs anout layer of lining over the top

When the lining paper is first put up, you probably wont see the cracks, but they will get worse and definately show through the 1000 after a few months, and you will have lost money and time for not doing your prep properly that would only have taken a a few hours, and you will kick yourself.
I'm with Zampa on this one to cut out cracks and fill, then line,it will be worth it in the end.
