Hello,

Just finnishing off my house. Ive painted all the new woodwork with a white satin paint. When ive come to refit the doors which were previously painted with crown one coat gloss, they are very yellow compared to the new paint work. We dont smoke. Im going to re paint them any way but Ive been told that the gloss turns yellow over time. Is this true? will it happen to the satin paint?

Thanks

Yes. Any solvent based gloss will go yellow. Satin doesent yellow quite so much, in fact goes a grey/white. Regardless of whether you smoke. In gloomy rooms with little natural light it will be worse. Sunny rooms will be slower to yellow as ultra violet sunrays keep it bleached. Notice how outside gloss doesent ever yellow ;) Afraid the satin paint won't catch up with your doors.
