I am using flourescent light bulbs (energy saving) instead of incadescent light bulbs for lighting. When "A" is switched on and subsequently, "B" is switched on, "A" either flickers or flickers and goes off. Next, if "C" is switched on, "A" will also come on. This problem has spread to when an electrical mains is switched on. Electricity is single phase, 240V, 13A. Circuit is done in series for the lighting. For the mains, no idea.

Could you tell me what is wrong? Never had this problem. It suddenly just pop up. Is it the ELCB or the wiring or the fittings?

Many thanks.

this is a uk forum an so most of us will know little (or in my case nothing about electrical systems in Singapore) however a few questions all the same.

1. Are you sure your lights are wired into the ELCB? it is not common practice here and could cause flickering.

2. How old is the house wiring/fittings

3. Has any work of any kind been done on the house before the problems started.

4. Do you have a multimeter?

If possible will you:

(A) replace these three lamps with incandescent one's and note what problems exist then. (this will rule out any problems with the CFL's themselves, flickering and rapid switching will damage them)

(B) Answer the above questions in your reply.

As Breezer pointed out, the Lights should all be in Parallel.

There could be a number of reasons for this, the easiest to think of, and post here, is volt drop. Compact Fluorescents are very voltage sensitive unless dimmable, and only Oram make them AFAIK, if you have a poor installation, which it sounds like, then the voltage drawn by one lamp, may be sufficient to drop the voltage enough to stop the other lamp working.

Then when you turn then other light on, the first lamp is triggered again as the voltage fluctuates.

This is not common, but can happen. Not knowing exactly how things are connected up it is difficult and potentially misleading to comment in detail.
