Painting old 1960s fireplace

As the title says, I have an old fireplace that I want to paint. Can anyone tell me what I need to buy to paint over the tiles,i.e any sort of undercoat and type of paint.

Here, I'm not sure if the heat from the fire will discolour it

Thanks for the info masona. This is a 60's fireplace.The tiles are a solid part of the fireplace and can't be removed.

Well apparenlty tiles are meant to be one of the best surfaces to tile over..
