I am getting sooty deposits from my hot water system. These stain the bath. I have a Sime combination boiler. The deposits only seem to affect the bath not the other hot water outlets in the house, although my previous washing machine which was hot and cold fill also may have suffered from this problem. Any ideas?

Are you sure it is a sooty deposit and not black rubber bits? I'm thinking along the lines of perished tap washer if no other hot outlets are affected. If others are affected then perhaps diaphragm is perishing!
Is it bits of rust (very dark red/brown)?
If it is ,could be old iron barrel pipework going to bath taps.
