Just replacing a broken outside PIR which controls a halogen flood.

The replacement PIR unit has the following terminals: Live Out, Neutral, Earth and Live In. The flood light has been wired into the first three terminals.

The power supply for the PIR comes via an internally mounted 13a switch with neon light and has four cables out.

Only three cables go in to the switch (Live, Neutral and Earth). These match up with the cables going out. My problem is the fourth wire. It is connected to one side of the neon light. So where should this additional wire be connected on the PIR?

Any help appreciated!

Does the switch override the PIR? How are the wires connected in the back of the switch? Can you tell us how many terminals are on the switch and any other markings on it? A photo (see forum info how to upload a picture) would be nice :D

Live IN is the feed to PIR

Live OUT is the switched LIVE that the PIR controls. This goes to the lamp

Neutral is the neutral feed to the PIR ( the lamp will need a neutral as well )

Earth self explanatory

If the lamp and the PIR are a single unit you can ignore the Live out as it would be used for either another lamp controlled by the PIR or a remote over rided switch that turns the lamp on what ever the PIR is doing.

Re-reading your post,,,, Is it a 13 amp socket or a switch inside.

If it is a swith that overides the PIR then the fourth wire goes to Live Out
