removing a 1950s tiled fireplace

hi all,

sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't too sure about here or decorating.

i need to remove a 1950s tiled fireplace.
i know that the upright section will be held onto the wall be a couple of metal brackets a few inches from the top on each side.
however, how is the grate area attached? the floor still has the original brown vinyl tiles on and a cannot see any junction/bracket etc?

in addition, if anyone can provide general tips for this process to help me avoid damaging the fireplace as i remove it that would be great.

i once took one out, and as you say, the top is just screwed to the wall on a bracket each side near the top... the bottom was a slab of concrete tiled, just like the top piece, i managed to get a spade under one corner and apply leverage, and it came up in one piece, just seperating it from the mortar bed it was laid on..shed.
