Hi all,

Problem:
If a block of flats was fitted with district heating, elson tanks, and a plastic over flow pipes if and when the water over heated would it blow off in all flats or just one and would the temperature from the district heating be sufficient to melt the rubber washer in the trap which the elson tank plastic blow off pipe was plumbed into and cause it to leak?

Hope there is enough info above to understand what i am on about lol. :)

No it wouldn't.

What you need to do is tell all the story.

What heat source other than the district heating, heats the Elson.

You say if and when it overheats, an unlikely event under any conditions, unless you have a secondary immersion heater.

What is the district heating Oil, Gas, Thermal etc, and what controls it all.

More info wanted, lots of it.

Oop ok sorry,

The heating being district is a gas boiler and stored in an outside garaged sized building which feed a block of flats.
The system has to valves to govern the heat to the rads and hot water but as we all know can be faulty giving scalding rads or in some cases hot water however back to my problem.

What i am asking is would it be possible for the district heating boiler to over heat and send scalding hot water out of the over flow pipe that is plumbed into the bath trap. If it could would the temperature of the hot water that has blown off rech temperatures to melt the rubber washer inside th trap to cause it to leak.

Also if the district heating gas boiler did blow off would it not blow off into all other flats to releice the pressure. Why would it only blow off in 1 flat?

anything is possible ........what has actually happened hypotheticaly(sic) :?: ;)

As we all know  nothing of the sort.

Information, what has happened, with what, more about the type of Elson assuming thats where the problem started.

Why is there a bath trap in the boiler house?

Why would it matter to you if there was hot water going down the overflow in the boiler house?

JohnD, the bath trap is in the bathroom

Sounds to me like the Elson overflow is connected to the bath overflo, and the Elson has vented scalding water down the plastic overflo pipe and caused damage when the plastic pipe has gone all soft

elson water heater is a fortic tank the overflow is connected to the cold part so you've got to heat the whole thing to boiling point

this is open vent system you can only get boiling water standard wastes will handle boiling water at atmospheric pressure

is no a long enough answer ?

Elson also make Thermal stores, and unvented tanks, so the answer could be Yes, If !!!!!!! it has not been installed correctly.

We want more info.
