Hi all,

We're about to start redecorating our conservatory. The walls below the windows are brick which has been painted white. Appart from a few small cracks, they are in pretty good condition and certainly don't have mould problems, damp or anything like that.

I have a big tub of Brilliant White Dulux Matt Emulsion left over from when we painted two of the bedrooms a month ago. Is it okay to paint over the existing painted brick with this or do I need to get some Maisonry or other specialist paint?

TIA

Masonry paint is harder wearing, and you can wash it down (brick walls are rough so they accumulate dirt).

It does not have to be very expensive, especially white which is the most popular colour.

Emulsion is fine OUTSIDE or INSIDE on your brickwork, I use any left over white emulsion to do exactly as you are doing.

Wash your walls, allow to dry, then paint.

The only benefit of buying masonry paint, is that it lasts longer, but why buy expensive paint, when you will nearly always have spare emulsion.
