Dishwasher Back-up

We seldom use our dishwasher (maybe once a month) and recently found dirty, very smelling stagnant water in the bottom. Checked all lines, the filter ..... any ideas how to clear it up and prevent this? I don't think it's a draining problem, because when I do run the dishwasher....no standing water.

I expect this water is coming a nearby sink connection, and that either you have a partial blockage, or the pipework is wrongly installed.
