Hello,
I have a converted attic with a dwarf wall. I have fitted some new mains sockets in the wall but I would like to add some insulation batts to the wall too. Does anyone know how much clearance is required above and below a socket and the insulation?
(In case you are wondering, there is a hatch in the wall so I can get around the back of it.)
Thanks for any help! |

never mind the sockets. Cables heat up under load. It is not a crime to put them in insulation, but they must be derated for the insulation by as much as half, as they cannot dissipate heat and could melt if run at full load. This normally means using the next cable size up, or putting in a lower rated MCB.
It is best to put the cables away from the insulation. |
