Hi,

The slow-running fan on my 80SP recently stopped. The fan runs at full speed when hot water is called for, both DHW and CH. I've had the resistor (the rectangular gold one screwed to the underside of the combustion chamber) checked and it shows 605 ohms, 8% over the norm. I've checked the rubber pipes and the venturi and there are no obstructions. I've just been away for a week and so turned the pilot light off for safety but left the electricity on. When I got back the fan was running ! However, after running a couple of baths, using the washing machine etc the slow-running has stopped again.

I'd appreciate any help, comments that could tell me what the problem is.

Many thanks

Gary

Im almost positive that there is a switch activated by a diaphragm & pin arrangement that keeps the fan running without a demand for heat or water. Its been a while since ive seen an Excel right enuff but from memory its located below the hw assembly. I cant remember if the pin should be in or out to keep the fan running.

One of the other guys will enlighten me im sure !

Trance Nation - you're a star !

I've located the switch and sure enough, the pin wasn't fully retracting. I've lubricated the pin, it retracts and now the fan runs.

I'll keep an eye on it because the diaphragm will probably need replacing. Do you know the part number I need ?

Cheers,

Gary

While you're in there, get the kit and do the lot - 3 gland seals, 2 diaphragms, a shuttle, fig 8 washer. Whole kit is T0019
