Hello, I have decided to remove my radiator and replace it with a towel warmer. My bathroom is quite small and warm, so I dont need the extra heat a radiator gives off. I want to do this myself, without the aid of a qualified plumber, mainly because I have a £10 bet with my friend that I can do it (He reckons a girlie will have no chance). I have not done any plumbing before but I am usually quite good at DIY and not stupid. I have removed the tiles from the wall (ready for putting new tiles up). I want to take off the skirting board (I want wall to floor tiles), remove the radiator, install a towel warmer (I am happy to try and alter the pipe work using cutters, joints (plastic or soldering), re-tile, then attach the towel warmer. I have a combi boiler in my house (house is 6 years old). Can anyone give me step by step insructions or advice. I can do this with help !!!!!

Um....., what size steps would you like?

1 Turn off heating and boiler
1a Turn off all radiators at BOTH ends. (Count turns on lockshield valves)
2 Drain system
3 Remove radiator
4 Reconfigure pipes
5 Connect to towel rail
6 Refill system
7 Bleed air
8 Turn radiators on (both ends)
9 Turn on heating

Bet you wanted something else.

Cheers. I can do this. How do I drain the system when I have a combi boiler. Is it just a case of turning off the MAIN water inlet knob that serves the whole house, then running all the taps until they run dry ?

opening the taps DOES NOT drain your system down!! it is a separate circut of water that is heated through the boiler. You need to find a drain cock for the system this should be at the lowest point in the pipework???? usually i find they have been lost under floors etc ao you can drain it through one of the low point radiators, this can be a bit tricky though.....

have a good think before trying this as a tenner is not that much to lose, a good plumber shouldnt charge more than £120 for this
