Repairing Shiplap Fences

Any advice on repairing a post on a shiplap fence where the fence rails are cut into the fence post. I can see you can get the post out because it is broken but upon replacing the post how can you get the rails in as the fence was original built from one end and the only way I see is to support the post with the full weight of both panels each side which will be very difficult. If you allow it to set you cant get the rails in???
