banging boiler/pipes

Baxi Bermuda W2. If I put the gas water heater on the tank rumbles & bubbles noisily to start, then when the

water is hot the pipes or radiator upstairs (not sure which) clang as if being hit by a pan! Doesn't happen if I have hot water and heating on together! Confused!

Sounds like airlock and/or pump problem.

Have you got gravity hot water or fully pumped? Sounds like gravity to me and you have a blockage. When pump kicks in for heating excess heat is taken out of boiler.

If you have fully pumped then possible zone valve on hot water fault.
