rope seals

Good afternoon.

How do you deal with asbestos rope seals? I take it if deffective replace with fibreglass alternative. Am I correct.

How do you know it might contain asbestos? Age of boiler , appearance etc

There are lists of boilers known to contain asbesos on the corgi website and a pdf floating aroud the hse site somewhere. Remove safely with water spray etc, double bag and dispose of as asbestos waste and replace with a nice new rope seal. Can't remember if it one per day or one per week you're supposed to do.

Some list that, better get my claim in. Just about any boiler i ever worked on in the past. Ah well the wife will be minted.
