Rules on Kitchen extraction

Does my new kitchen have to have an extraction systen that vents outside or is one of those absorbing hoods ok..?

Building regs does require mechanic ventilation. You could have a hod with a crap recirculator and then install AND ADDITIONAL fan the other side of the kitchen in venting out the extractor is a problem.
 
does that mean that i'm gonna need mechanical ventilation in the kitchen and bathroom? are the allowed to join up on the way out?

you gotta think about things like smell transfer if joining 2 ducts..

while it may be nice to smell fresh coffee or baking scones while on the can, it's not going to be nice the other way round is it?
