I am looking to replace my tile roof on a large 1930's semi-detached house which is just starting to let water in during heavy rain.
When I moved in April 2006 I was quoted £8000 (pre-VAT) by couple of roofers.
Now (June 2007) been quoted £14000 for same job -
nothing has changed in work to be done (retile with cement tiles & batten and a bit of lead work).
Have prices gone up that much in a year or is it just that we are now in peak season?

If you`re in E,Sussex I can recommend a good+honest roofer....my e-mail is in my profile

All sounds rather expensive to me, although if your house is a massive 5 bed affair or a chalet-style house, 8k might not be far off.

For comparison I had a 3-bed 1930s semi done with Eternit slate for £3,500 ex VAT in London a few years ago. All three quotes were in the same region.
