There was a problem after the bathroom radiator was removed and refitted. It seems that both the central heating and hot water is affected. After starting up either, the boiler fires up for about a minute then goes out. Attempts have been made to bleed the system via the radiators, but the problem still persists. The pump appears to be running. Any Potterton experts out there?

It may just be an airlock but it could be a couple of other things

Check header tank in loft ballvalve maybe be jammed (lack of water). If tank is full attach a hose to drain valve on system drain some water off and make sure water level drops in tank if it does not you have a blocked cold feed

Well, trying to drain the system was not very successful. A small dribble came out of the drain valve. There is sufficient water in the header tank. A trip to B&Q resulted in a suggestion of adding an aggressive de-sludger to the system, but would you think it of any use as there is a serious blockage? Maybe forcing things with a hosepipe from the header tank might get things moving?

I'd go with namsag, with the cold feed blocked. Can you get water out of the highest radiators? If not then proves blockage. Needs to be cut out and replaced.
