I am just about to fit a dimmer switch which i thought would be straightforwrd but i have just removed the old switch and it is wired as follows:

yellow wire to common
red wire to 1 way conn
blue wire to 2 way conn

now the dimmer switch only has 2 connectors

so any ideas as to how i wire this up where would the 3rd wire go ??

thanks

You need to take your switch back to the shop you bought it from, and buy a 2 way switch.

thanks
is that my only option ?

I dont really mind if the 2 way part is active i suppose not connecting the 3rd wire will not work then eh ?

you say that now, but you will regret it later, take the switch back

if you are not bothered about the other switch remaining operational then it is possible to use your switch.

What wires are at the other switch and to witch terminals are they connected?

A photo would be smashing!!

rf lighting i have just emailed you the picture I hope you dont mind

thanks

To add an image to your post you click the img button. (the "button" is 2nd from the right at the top when you post)

then insert the WHOLE url of the image

then click the image button again

it will look like
yourimagge.jpg

Or you can use photo bucket

www.photobucket.com

Once there, the URL including the IMG tags are already shown under the pic so can be copied/pasted without needing to highlight the uRL in a post then add the tags.

need pics of the other switch and connections too so we can tell you what wire to leave out..

Or you can connect the T & E in the other switch through to the 3 core at the same position and ground the unused core at both ends. Then replace the unused switch with a blank plate. If you do this, don't forget to sleeve the unused core G/Y.
