hot water as well as heating , we had problem recently where the hot water only worked if heating was on aswell had it fixed but in this hot weather we only want hot water , now the timer control light comes on and goes off at the right time but nothing actually happens to the boiler (light stays red) should this fire up for hot water aswell as heating ( when press boost for heating for example all ok - but press boost for hot water just red light on timer control comes on but no bolier action - is this right? )

Yes - the boiler does not know what it is doing. The external controls come on and temperature/settings permitting the boiler will fire unitl:

a: system water reaches boiler's set temperature
b: controls are satisfied and shut the system down.

If the red light is on constantly (no flashing) then there is no demans being plasced on the boiler and the problem lies elsewhere. this is a very simple process of electrical tests depending on your set up (more details please).

If the red light is flashing there is a problem somewhere and the boiler has locked out.

If the green light is flashing the boiler is having a demand made of it, but it THINKS that it is at its set running temperature.

If the green light is on constant (not flashing) then the boiler is burning gas.

and if you have a problem with a Suprima visit the watchdog page on BBC as it has had a guest appearance more than once !
