Getting quotes for windows. I've looked at fire regs and decided that if I'm going to consider means of escape I might as well do it properly. Personally it looks to me like in a panic even the regulation size would be a bit small.

So on some of the windows I'd be looking at a side hung opener about 500mm wide by 1300mm tall. Questions:

1. Is that going to be too heavy?

2. Are fire hinges more susceptible to problems with a heavy window?

Thanks.

1300mm tall would be on the limit of most manufacturers sizes and most probaly would not gaurantee it, but you should have no trouble with it ( maybe won't get a brilliant seal in the middle of the sash.)
I do beleive you can get heavy duty egress hinges

I know for a fact they wouldn't seal in the centre of the sash but at least with a side opener you could fit closing wedges, steer clear of top hung in that size as you'll never get them to seal down the sides
