Redesigning kitchen - and having new windows and doors fitted - space in kitchen is bit cramped and thought it might be better to have a back door that opens outwards...
Can't think of any house I have lived in where external doors opened outwards - so wondering why is that the case?
is it possible? Or is it a bad idea?

Why not, if you get a door that's designed to open out, and not a normal door thats been turned round.

In my opinion all kitchen doors should open out as with any fire door.

No problem with opening out but timber doors will be affected by weather and hinges are exposed leaving them less secure.Make sure hinge bolts are fitted [or locking hinges.]
