Just moved house and the front door has a handle on both sides and has to be locked with a key to prevent entry/exit.

Can this be changed so the door will lock upon exit without a key (pulled shut) and can be made secure from the inside by lifting the handle and or using the key?

Hope that makes sense :D

It can be done and is called a lever pad set up.
At very least you will need a new handle and spindle possibly a new gear box/locking mech too.

Take out the locking gear to see if you have 2 spindle holes or just 1. Take some pics and write down any codes on the lock then post them here.

Personally I wouldn't recommend them as it promotes laziness in not properly securing the door, They only lock on the latch and are not very secure (a good kick would open it) and if your home is broken into this way your insurance company most likely wouldn't pay out.
