We would liked fit a porthole type window to allow more natural light into our hallway. It will be fitted into a new stud portion that is yet to be boarded.

Is this possible and how easy?

Do you mean a round opening or a round window?

For an opening you make the opening the Same way you would create any opening. Either use a beading designed to be curved and form it yourself (or get your plasterer to do it) or use something like this http://www.expamet.co.uk/bullseye-arch-former
Google 'bullseye arch former'

For a window you would just need to get a window supplier to supply one and board up to it. Maybe Google 'circular vision panel for walls'
