Vaguely related...

I've just bought some metal kebab skewers with wooden handles (market no one spoke English etc)

The handles are untreated wood.

Any suggestion on what I could do to make them less flammable/last longer?

There weren't expensive do I don't mind if they don't last forever but just want to see what I can do...

Soak handles in a bucket of water prior to use they will dry out during cooking.
Same method is used for wood kebab sticks.
