Mixing wallpaper paste
Difficulty Cost

   Contents
  Introduction

It is important to follow the manufacturer's guide as to the most suitable type of paste to use for their wallpaper - see Choosing the wallpaper adhesive. As a general rule, the heavier the wallpaper the stronger the paste needs to be.

Mixing instructions must be followed as some general purpose pastes are mixed in different quantities for different types of wallpaper. Always fill the bucket with the correct quantity of water first. Use a medium sized stick to stir the water, while simultaneously slowly adding the paste.

If it is added too quickly, it will become lumpy and require far greater effort to reach the required smooth consistency for pasting the paper.

Most instructions will require the paste to stand for a short time before using (approximately 10-20 minutes), but some will be ready for immediate use.
