Vinyl tiles
Difficulty Cost

   Contents
  Method

There are two kinds of vinyl tiles available - vinyl coated or solid vinyl.

They are warm to stand on, comfortable and quiet to walk over. Vinyl flooring is available in a variety of colours, shapes and prices. It is a resilient surface covering, easy to cut and are suitable for areas where complicated cuts have to be made.

Once you have decided on the tile, note its length and width and measure the room carefully. Measure its length and divide it by the length of one tile. Round up the number of tiles to the next whole number. Now measure the width of the room and divide that by the width of the tile, round up the number of tiles to the nearest whole number. Multiply the two whole numbers together. This will give the number of tiles required to tile the room. Try our Floor Tile Calculator page to give you a rough guide to the number required.

It is always wise to buy a few extra tiles, to keep as spares in case of accidental damage in the future.

  Cleaning and caring

They can be swept or vacuumed, but be careful not to scratch the surface. Use undiluted cleaner to remove scuff marks. Do not use abrasive cleaners on the surface. Wash with water and liquid floor cleaner or mild detergent, but avoid soaking with water in case it seeps under the tiles.
