Double glazing windows and doors is expensive, but an excellent method
of draught proofing as well as adding an attractive home improvement.
As well as cutting heating costs, it also reduces outside noise.
There are two methods of installing double glazing:
- Buy from a specialist company
- Buy windows or doors in kit form and install them yourself
There are different kits available, but the conventional kit
consists of either a UPVC framework-which gives a rigid, weather
resistant finish or an aluminium framework.
Frames are made with
the glass attached and then fitted directly into the existing
framework or to the walls of the reveal.
Panels can be arranged as
permanently fixed, sliding or hinged. An opening is advisable for
ventilation and fire safety purposes. This will also make cleaning
the panes easier.
