Cutting a tile to replace a broken tile
Difficulty Cost

   Contents
  Cutting a tile

If the tile has broken then a replacement will be required. Remove the existing broken tile see Removing a damaged tile. Check with a builder's yard for a spare tile see Builders Merchants for local suppliers. Otherwise look for a similar piece of tiling. Tiles come in varying sizes and colours. Always try to get a tile of a similar colour to make the repair less conspicuous. The tile should also be the same thickness.

Mark the shape and size of the replacement tile on the back of a piece of tiling. Try using a power saw with an abrasive cutting disc or use an angle grinder, which can be hired, see Hire Shops.

If you have a few tiles to cut, considering hiring a tile cutter or angle grinder to enable good, clean edges, see Hire Shops.
