advice varies but a good rule is finger tight then 1/2 turn, if it weeps then give it another 1/4.

another trick, although it shouldn't be necessary, is to put a smear of jointing compound between the olive and the fitting. some have used ptfe on the olive but if it needs it then the jointing compound is a better idea.
